শ্রীরামপুর: বল্লভপুরের রাধাবল্লভ জীউ মন্দির

এবার আসুন বল্লভপুর। এখানে দেখে নিন ২৫০ বছরের বেশি পুরোনো রাধাবল্লভ মন্দির, সংলগ্ন রাসমঞ্চ, রাধা বল্লভ ঘাট। পাশেই আছে গঙ্গার ধারে নবনির্মিত শশ্মানকালীর মন্দির এবং উগ্রতারা তীর্থ। এর ঠিক উলটো পাড়ে বারাকপুর ও টিটাগড়ের মাঝে অন্নপূর্ণা মন্দির এবং রাসমণি ঘাট।  

রাধাবল্লভ জীউ মন্দির

এই রাধাবল্লভের মন্দির থেকেই এই এলাকার নাম হয় বল্লভপুর। 

এই মন্দিরের ইতিহাস সম্পর্কে দুটি মত আছে। একমত বলে যে এই মন্দিরের বিগ্রহের প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন রুদ্ররাম। রুদ্ররাম ছিলেন শাক্ত এবং তাঁর মামা ছিলেন শ্রীরামপুরের চাতরা নিবাসী বৈষ্ণবচূড়ামণী, শ্রীচৈতন্য পরিকর, পণ্ডিত কাশীশ্বর।

কাশীশ্বর পণ্ডিত ছিলেন অত্যন্ত গোঁড়া বৈষ্ণব। তিনি প্রতিদিন নিজের হাতে তাঁদের কুলদেবতা শ্রীকৃষ্ণের পূজা করতেন। তিনি কোন অ-বৈষ্ণবকে এই বিগ্রহ  ছুঁতে দিতেন না। একদিন কোন কারণে তাঁর বাড়িতে ফিরতে দেরি দেখে তাঁর ভাগনে রুদ্ররাম শ্রীকৃষ্ণের পূজা সম্পন্ন করেন। বাড়ি ফিরে এসে কাশীশ্বর এই দেখে খুবই রাগ করেন এবং রুদ্ররামকে গালিগালাজ করেন। মনের দুঃখে রুদ্ররাম বাড়ি ছেড়ে বেরিয়ে এসে আকনায় (এখন বল্লভপুর) গঙ্গার ধারে এক জায়গায় আশ্রয় নেন এবং শ্রীকৃষ্ণের প্রার্থনায় মগ্ন হন। 

শ্রীরামপুর - ইতিহাসের পাতা থেকেঃ জননগর

শ্রীরামপুরের ইংরিজি বানান বিভিন্ন জায়গায় বিভিন্ন রকম ব্যবহার হয়েছে - Serampore, Srirampur, Srirampore, Shrirampore, Shreerampur, Shreerampore। তবে শ্রীরামপুর রেলস্টেশনকে ভারতীয় রেল SHRIRAMPUR লেখে এবং আধুনিক ড্যানিশ কাগজপত্রে এবং শ্রীরামপুর কলেজের ইংরিজি বানানে SERAMPORE বলেই লেখা আছে - তাই এই দুটি বানানই ব্যবহার করা উচিত।

মাহেশের রথ দেখা শেষ, এবার আসুন মাহেশের অন্যান্য ঐতিহাসিক জায়গাগুলি ঘুরে দেখি। 

শ্রীরামপুরঃ মাহেশ - জগন্নাথ মন্দির ও রথযাত্রা

প্রথমেই আসি মাহেশ-এ। শ্রীরামপুরের মেন টাউন থেকে একটু দূরে মাহেশ এর রথযাত্রা পৃথিবীর দ্বিতীয় প্রাচীন রথযাত্রা (প্রাচীনতমটি হল পুরীর)। 

শোনা যায় নিজের হাতে জগন্নাথদেবকে ভোগ খাওয়াবেন এই ইচ্ছা নিয়ে ধ্রুবানন্দ ব্রহ্মচারী নামে এক বাঙ্গালী সাধু পুরী গেছিলেন। কিন্তু বাধ সাধল পুরীর ওড়িয়া পাণ্ডারা। তারা তাঁকে মেরেধরে মন্দির থেকে বের করে দিল। তখন দুঃখিত, অপমানিত ধ্রুবানন্দ আমরণ অনশনে বসলেন। তৃতীয়দিনে স্বপ্নাদেশ পেলেন ধ্রুবানন্দ, ভাগীরথী নদীর ধারে বাংলায় মাহেশ নামে এক জায়গায় ভগবান এক দারুব্রহ্ম (নিমকাঠ) পাঠাবেন এবং ধ্রুবানন্দ যেন সেই দারুব্রহ্ম থেকে জগন্নাথ, বলরাম এবং সুভদ্রার মূর্তি বানিয়ে পুজো শুরু করেন এবং জগন্নাথদেব সেখানেই ধ্রুবানন্দের হাতের ভোগ খাবেন। প্রভু বললেন, ‘পাবে কাষ্ঠ তুমি, সুরধুনী নীরে কর গিয়া উত্তোলন। দারু কারুকর পাইবে সত্ত্বর যাহা হবে প্রয়োজন।’ 

শ্রীরামপুর - ইতিহাসের পাতা থেকেঃ শুরুর কথা

২০১৮ সালে শ্রীরামপুরে গঙ্গার ধারে একটি পুরোনো ভাঙ্গাবাড়ি সংস্কার হয়ে ড্যানিশ ট্যাভর্ন বলে একটা নতুন হোটেল এবং রেস্তোরাঁ খোলে শ্রীরামপুরে। প্রথমে কিছুদিন রাজ্য ট্যুরিজম বোর্ড এটিকে চালালেও পরে এটিকে পরিচালনার দায়িত্ব আসে পার্ক হোটেলের হাতে। ঐতিহাসিক ড্যানিশ ট্যাভর্নের হাত ধরে রাজ্যের ফুড-মানচিত্রে শ্রীরামপুর স্থান দখল করে নেয়। খাওয়ার সাথেই আসে ঘোরা। ইতিহাস প্রেমী হন বা না হন শ্রীরামপুর এলে দারুণ দারুণ দেখার জায়গাগুলো মিস করবেন না। কে জানে ক'বছর পর এসব আর তাদের জায়গায় থাকবে কি না!

ব্যারাকপুরের বাসিন্দা হওয়ায় বহুবার ধোবিঘাটে এসে ওপাড়ের শ্রীরামপুরের গীর্জার চূঁড়া দেখেছি। কিন্তু তার তাৎপর্য বা ঐতিহাসিক গুরুত্ব নিয়ে কোনদিন ভাবিনি। যাইহোক ঘুরতে যাওয়ার আগে একটু ইন্টারনেট সার্চ করতেই যা বুঝলাম ইতিহাসের খনি লুকিয়ে আছে গঙ্গার ওপাড়ে। 

গঙ্গার এই পাড়ে ব্যারাকপুর আর উল্টোপাড়ে শ্রীরামপুর, চন্দননগর, চুঁচুড়া আর ব্যান্ডেল - এই পাঁচটি শহর ছিল ইউরোপীয় উপনিবেশ - এবং এই অঞ্চলটিকে বলা হত - লিটল ইউরোপ।

Chinese Eateries in and around Old Cheenapara of Kolkata (টেরিটি বাজার)

Frankly speaking, today old China Town of Kolkata is quite gloomy compared to Tangra (pronounced asTyangra/ট্যাংরা) - the new China Town in terms of food offerings. Tangra has some very good restaurants with good ambience. And Khoka goes there to have Chicken Chowmein and Chili fish (Ref: Dwitiyo Purush).

Jokes apart, Tiretta Bazaar has its own old school charm and they don't burn your pockets at all. Being quite affordable and location near to College street, hence college goers have quite heavy footfall here. Another thing is none of these Tiretta 'eating houses' serve alcohol while Tangra is famous for cheap boozes with good Chinese starters.  

China Town of Kolkata - Dragon Boat Festival

For the uninitiated, Kolkata has two China Towns - old one in the center of the city at Tiretti Bazar and new one at the boundary of the city at Tangra. And the China Towns in Kolkata are the only ones in India. 

This is the Cheenapara  (চীনেপাড়া) series on my blog. In this story the topic is Dragon Boat Festival. Interesting thing is Kolkata never celebrated this festival until 2015, though first Chinese Tong Achew stepped his feet in Bengal during 1770's. The main reason is simple - Dragon Boat festival needs water bodies where boats can be raced, and being in the center of city, Tiretti Bazar's Chinese community could not able to organize such festival in the absence of big water bodies. Well our sacred river, the Ganges could be an option but they never think of it. 

Dragon Boat festival, also known as Tuen Ng or Duwanu Jie Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival which falls on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. It is famous in China and other historical China towns across the globe like in San Francisco, London and Singapore. The festival pays homage to poet and hero Qu Yuan with a special dish called 'chong'. Chong is delicious glutinous rice cake stuffed with meat or sweet paste, wrapped in bamboo leaves.
