BSNL Brings New Logo with the Hope for Better Future

BSNL New Logo (October 2024)

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the state owned telecommunication company is all set to rise from the almost-ashes. Thanks to present government of India, Union cabinet approved a revival package of Rs 89,047 crore for the 4th telco of the country. BSNL was suffering for continuous losses for last 12 years due to debts, poor infrastructure and several red tapes of bureaucracy.

While Airtel launched 4G services in 2012, BSNL is right now launching 4G across the country - that's 12 years late!

However due to July 2024's tariff hike by all 3 private telcos - Jio, Airtel and Vi, people are opting for cheaper BSNL service which has only 3G services. As people are moved to private telcos' 4G or 5G network, BSNL subscribers are getting modest speed on BSNL 3G network. Not only that in those areas BSNL 4G is live, one get 4G speed at 3G packs.

Latest TRAI data showed that in August 2024, BSNL has added 2.53 million wireless users while Vi lost 1.87 million users, Airtel lost 2.4 million users, and Jio lost 4 million users. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia praised that BSNL has done an impossible turnaround story after recording operating profit in the last two years.

The biggest gamble by any telecom player which is at losses for last 12 years, is to develop its own 4G tech. BSNL did that. BSNL's 4G equipment and software are coming from all indigenous companies - Tata backed TCS, Tejas Network and C-DoT. These equipment are 5G ready i.e. BSNL can launch 5G seamlessly after some time. India-grown these 4G and 5G ready gears are perfect example of self-reliant India. The deal could be roughly Rs 19,000-crore worth.

TCS and the government’s C-DOT have operationalized 40 data centres of varying capacities in BSNL's premises across all telecom circles.

BSNL 4G will use spectrum across 700, 2100 and 2500 MHz bands - that means BSNL 4G will have one of best indoor coverage, thanks to 4G-LTE over 700MHz band.

On October 22, 2024 BSNL unveiled its new logo, and 7 new services in BSNL Bhawan of New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani and Department of Telecommunications, Secretary, Neeraj Mittal.

These new BSNL services include a spam-free network, national Wi-Fi roaming, fiber-based intranet TV, Any Time SIM (ATS) Kiosks, direct-to-device service, ‘Public Protection & Disaster Relief’ as a solution, and the first private 5G for mines in partnership with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

BSNL is already tested its home-made 5G tech with several private and public companies over 700MHz and 3600MHz band. 5G over 700MHz will have another advantage for BSNL to offer best indoor coverage - only Jio's 5G has that advantage.

If all goes perfect BSNL will have nation-wide 4G coverage in mid of 2025, while some of area will be upgraded to 5G already. BSNL 5G may go live by January 2025 and by the end of 2026 it will present all over India.
