Idea 3G Speedtest at Barasat (West Bengal) [May 2016]

Once again, I tested Idea 3G (the network was actually latched to Vodafone 3G) in Barasat, West Bengal.

Checked on 18.05.2016 - in between 3:30 am to 4 am (when the network has least traffic)

My Hands-On With All GSM Data Services in Kolkata

With two 3G modems at hand – ZTE MF190 and Huawei E1550 I tried all available GSM players available at Kolkata circle. I did experimenting with their 2G packs and come to an conclusion that Uninor & BSNL is best at my home place, Barrackpore. I did not try my hands with 3G players, as they are costly and beyond the reach of most users.

3G Avalibility in West Bengal

Kolkata has 4 3G operators - BSNL, Reliance, Aircel, Vodafone while West Bengal has 5 3G operators - BSNL, Reliance, Aircel, Airtel, Vodafone.

In Kolkata all operators commercially rolled out 3G services. It is expected Airtel will enter into spectrum shareing & roaming agreement with Vodafone to offer 3G services in Kolkata. Idea Cellular already promised to give a nation-wide 3G roaming, and thus 3G services on pan India basis.

Reliance GSM vs Reliance Smart - Both are same!


   

 If you are confused about Reliance GSM and Reliance Smart GSM services, this map will help you.

Note that both are now under GSM services from Reliance Communications.

Though offerings are same on both, there is a difference in APN to access GPRS.

in R-GSM APN is 'rcomnet'
in Smart APN is 'smartnet'

Check where you are and choose your APN if you are using Reliance GPRS/3G Data services.
