Mid 2023: Tablet Buying Guide

When smartphones started coming to India, big screen smartphones were something called luxury. If you can remember, in 2010 Notion Ink Adam was a great tablet by Indian company. But it never got the commercial success, like the applaud they get during initial launch announcement. It got delayed several times, testing the patience of the buyers and the tech community. Frankly speaking, tablet market is always a risk for the OEMs, except Apple - the makers of iPads. 

It's been just middle of 2023, and we have 2 gorgeous Android tablets in Indian market - One Plus Pad and Xiaomi Pad 6. Both are affordable and superb looking devices with several accessories to pump them out. 

5G India: New Updates

With 5G technology, Indian service providers have got ample of opportunities. Many experts believe that India has fastest large-scale deployment of 5G infrastructure in the world. 

First Jio or Airtel started with OpenRAN architecture - where hardware is kept compatible with other softwares too (like you bought HP laptop, which comes with Windows, but you uninstalled it, and installed Ubuntu Linux). 

BSNL 5G by mid-2024 

State owned operator BSNL did not depend on Chinese vendors (Huawei and ZTE) for 4G roll out - the contract went to Tata Consultancy Services led consortium. The advanced purchase order (APO) for deployment of 4G network across India on behalf of BSNL is valued over Rs 15,000 crore. The consortium includes government-owned Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) and Tata Group owned Tejas Networks. BSNL's West Zone's 4G deployment will be done by Central govt. backed ITI. This contract is worth ₹3,889 crore. 

India's telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, by the end of May, announced that BSNL 4G will go live in 2 months, and 5G upgrade will be started in November-December of 2023, and 5G from BSNL will go masses by March 2024 - which I personally believe unachievable. BSNL may launch 4G commercially at Q4 of 2023, and that home made 4G-5G stack BSNL is deploying will be upgraded to 5G/NR by middle of 2024. 

NavIC - India's Regional Satellite Navigational System Updated to v2.0 with L1 Band Support

Desi GPS or NavIC goes v2.0 as the second generation of satellites (NSV) is being placed in orbit. NSV-01 will replace old gen satellite IRNSS-1G. With the latest technology, NavIC is designed to provide user position accurate to better than 20 metres and timing accuracy better than 50 nanoseconds over L1, L5 & S band signals. There will be another 4 NSV satellites for NavIC 2.0 in the coming future. Most important thing about NavIC v2.0 satellites they support the L1 band which makes it truly compatible with most existing navigation systems.

It should be noted that India had to develop its own satellite navigation system as during the Kargil war of 1999, United States did not gave us required GPS feed of the Kashmir valley. ISRO started working to build Indian satnav. Under leadership of the-then chairman A S Kiran Kumar during 2015-18 NavIC received significant progress and acceleration. 

For the first time, an indigenously developed rubidium atomic clock was flown in NVS-01. The space-qualified rubidium atomic clock, indigenously developed by Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad is an important technology which only a handful of countries possess.

The satellite is powered by two solar arrays, capable of generating power up to 2.4kW and a lithium-ion battery supporting payload and bus load during eclipse. The mission life of NVS-01 is expected to be better than 12 years.

টাকির জমিদারির ইতিহাস

পশ্চিমবঙ্গ-বাংলাদেশ সীমান্তে উত্তর ২৪ পরগণা জেলায় ইছামতী নদীর পশ্চিমতীরে অবস্থিত মফস্সলের এই ছোট শহর - টাকি ঘিরে রয়েছে বহু প্রাচীন ইতিহাস। ইছামতী ছাড়াও আরো একটি ছোট নদী প্রবাহিত হত টাকির পাশ দিয়ে। এর ফলে তৈরি হয় সরু মুখের নদীতীর বা ট্যাঁক। এই ট্যাঁক থেকেই টাকি'র নামকরণ হয় বলে মনে করা হয়। এখানে সেই অর্থে সীমান্ত বলে কিছু নেই - নদীর মাঝ বরাবর ভারত বাংলাদেশ সীমান্ত বলে ধরে নেওয়া হয়। নদীর এপারে ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গের উত্তর ২৪ পরগনা জেলার টাকি এবং অপর প্রান্তে প্রতিবেশী দেশ বাংলাদেশের সাতক্ষীরা জেলার শ্রীপুর, ভাতসালা, দেভাটা গ্রাম। সুন্দরবনের গেটওয়ে হিসেবেও টাকি পরিচিত হলেও আজ কলকাতা থেকে Weekend Destination হিসেবে টাকি আলাদা করে স্বীকৃতি পেয়েছে। শুধুমাত্র ইছামতীর টানেই, বা শীতের গ্রামের আমেজ নিতে বা, দশমীর দুর্গাবিসর্জন দেখতে নয়, টাকির ইতিহাসের টানে এখন ভ্রমণপিয়াসীরা আসছেন সারা বছর ধরে। যদিও টাকির ইতিহাসের অনেককিছুই এখন অবহেলায় সময় এবং নদীর গর্ভে - যা আছে তার দরকার ঠিকঠাক রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ। 

টাকি ভ্রমণঃ প্রকৃতি, ইছামতী নদী আর জমিদারবাড়ি

আজ থেকে ২০-২৫ বছর আগে অবধি টাকি শহরের পরিচয় ছিল শীতকালীন পিকনিক স্পট হিসেবে। আমার সেই সময়ের টাকি'র স্মৃতি হিসেবে যেটুকু মনে আছে, চওড়া ইছামতী নদী, পাশে ধানক্ষেত - ধান কেটে নেওয়ার পর ধানগাছের গোড়াটুকু পড়ে আছে, আর কিছু খেজুর গাছ, যেগুলোতে রসের হাঁড়ি ঝুলছে আর ফেরার সময় দেখেছিলাম চুপচাপ টাকি রেলস্টেশনকে। 

সেই টাকি আজ আর নেই। রিলায়েন্স ট্রেণ্ডস আর স্মার্ট পয়েন্ট খুলে গিয়েছে এখানে। চাষবাস এই শহরে আজ হয়না বললেই চলে। অবশ্য দোষই বা দেই কেন? দেশের অন্যতম প্রাচীন এই জনপদে পুরসভা গঠিত হয় ১৮৬৯ সালের ১ এপ্রিল ৪টি ওয়ার্ড নিয়ে। অধীনে ছিল সাড়ে ৪ বর্গ মাইল। ১৪ জন মনোনীত সদস্য নিয়ে গঠিত হয়েছিল টাউন কমিটি। শুরুতে পুরসভার কাজ চলত মোহিত কুণ্ডুর বাড়িতে। টাকি পুরসভার প্রথম ভারপ্রাপ্ত পুরপ্রধান সতীকান্ত মুখোপাধ্যায় এবং উপপ্রধান হয়েছিলেন জ্ঞানেন্দ্রকুমার রায়চৌধুরী। ওই সময়ে টাকির বেশির ভাগ জায়গা ছিল জঙ্গলে ভরা। একসময় বাঘের তাণ্ডবে অতিষ্ঠ টাকি টাউন কমিটি শেষমেশ বাঘ মারতে পুরস্কার ঘোষণা করে। যার নগদ মূল্য ছিল ১৬ টাকা! কে পেয়েছিলেন এই পুরষ্কার সে ইতিহাস অবশ্য সময়ের ধুলোয় চাপা পড়ে গেছে। স্বাধীনতার আগে থেকেই টাকির উন্নতি শুরু, সেই উন্নতির পিছনে অবশ্য টাকির রায়চৌধুরী জমিদারদের অবদান অনস্বীকার্য। ১৮৮১ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত টাকি গভমেন্ট স্কুল এখানকার শিক্ষা-মনন গঠনে এক দারুণ কাজ করে চলেছে। বিভিন্ন সময়ে টাকি পুরসভায় এসেছিলেন নেতাজি সুভাষচন্দ্র বসু, আচার্য প্রফুল্লচন্দ্র রায়, শরৎচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায়, রসরাজ অমৃতলাল বসু, জলধর সেন প্রমুখ। বিধানচন্দ্র রায়ের আমলে একবার রাজ্যের সব মন্ত্রীদের নিয়ে ‘আম দরবার’ বসেছিল টাকিতে।

War Ground 5G: Airtel vs Jio - Fastest 5G Rollout

India is noting down another success story - world's fastest commercial 5G mobile technology roll out, thanks to Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel's continuous effort. Six months after 5G launched in the country, India's 5G customer base stands at 50 million (= 5 cr) which is nearly 5% of world's 5G subscriber base. Crisil Ratings predicts India will have 30 cr 5G subscribers in next 2 years (by March 2025), which would account for 1/3rd of total wireless data users of the country.
