Barrackpore is a old suburb on the north of Kolkata with a cantonment area. Here public transport is quite good -extending from train, bus, auto and ferry. However whenever you think about hiring a cab, you need to take a pause. Here there is no cab stand basically but cabs wait at Chiriamore mostly. Few cabs wait at Rail station but ask anything. Yellow cabs here is always a costly option, most of them refuse or ask for a price which could make you speechless enough to argue with the driver.
Coming to radio cabs/e-Cabs, now you can book a Uber cab to Barrackpore viaIntercity option. From airport to Barrackpore Uber outstation would cost around Rs 449 to Rs 650 (low surge to high surge)*, while non AC prepaid yellow taxi would cost Rs 425. (From Chiriamore taxi stand nobody will go by meter and most yellow taxi will ask Rs 500-700 for airport drop).
Update March 1, 2020: Uber has extended its city coverage in Northern suburbs til Badamtala, Ichapur on Ghoshpara Road. I believe that is due to AIIMS Kalyani Uber is now carrying many passengers across North suburbs of Kolkata.
* As I checked Barrackpore to Airport at night (zero surge) can cost as low as Rs 290.
Earlier I used a system glitch of Uber, book to Sodpur and then extend to Barrackpore by changing the destination. The cost was extra Rs 120 approx. for rerouted Sodepur to Barrackpore. But now it does not work - they will add up Rs 400+ on your bill.
Ola does serve to Barrackpore but til Haldriram's on B.T. Road, til Boropole and til St Xavier's, Ruiya on Kalyani expressway. From chiriamore they have Bike option but hardly you can get any bike anytime of the day. That means that there is dark zone on Ola's service area (talpukur to chiriamore/Bkp rail station). And Ola outstation to Barrackpore would cost a bomb (Rs 1200).

Updating this post after almost 6 years:
This whole situation have been improved as I reside at Barrackpore. There are now more options apart from just Ola and Uber, but Ola still don't serve here as city cabs, but as OutStation. InDrive - the bargaining cab booking had entered into Kolkata cab business, and later Rapido, known for bike rentals, also entered into cab business. Not only that government backed Yatri Sathi app is another bit-low-cost option now. Kolkata also got its ev-Cab hailing services - SnapCabs, which mostly work with UberGreen.
Premium cab services like Meru Cabs now owned by Mahindra Mobility, and transformed into Alyte. MegaCabs, launched in 2002 is still existing, but mostly in Delhi.
Update from 2025 1st October: Time 1AM (ok that's Nabami late night here in Kolkata)
Barrackpore to Airport:
Uber starting from ₹513, Sedan ₹519, Premier ₹633, XL ₹1344, Go Priority ₹515
Ola ₹598-770
InDrive ₹360+ (your bargain)/ComfortAC ₹455+
Rapido Cabs NonAC ₹401, AC ₹473, Premium Cab ₹544, Cab XL ₹850
Yatri Sathi NonAC Cab ₹594, AC Mini ₹655-675, Sedan ₹738
